What is geothermal heating and cooling? 

The concept is quite simple really.  The main source of energy is the earth itself.  Just a few feet below the crust of the earth, the ground maintains a constant mild temperature ranging from 50 to 70 degrees.  A geothermal system essentially is a heat ttransfer system.  The system circulates water between your home and the earth.  A heat transfer occurs, removing heat from the earth and delivering it to your home and the opposite theory is applied to cool your home.  This is achieved through the use of polyethylene pipes which are bored into the ground, similar to a common well.  These tubes are then connected to your indoor unit to supply the transferred energy to your home.

Geothermal  technology is the most efficient heating and cooling system available.  Many government buildings such as schools and military bases have been utilizing this technology for years.  Until now geothermal technology was too cost inhibitive for most smaller structures, like your home.  While geothermal systems are initially more costly than traditional systems, they offer a greater "Payback". (how long it will take to make up the difference in cost between the two system types, thanks to better efficiency)  The cost savings are achieved through greatly reduced utility costs.  Geothermal systems rely on electricity, not to produce the heat, but ttransfer heat.  For example, a geothermal system can produce 4-5 kilowatts of heat for each kilowatt of electricity consumed.  At best, a traditional gas/electric system can reach 95% efficiency, a geothermal system is typically 400-500% efficient.  Being an all electric system, geothermal units are not subject to the wildly fluctuating fuel market.  Electric rates have remained relatively steady and trend to do so in the future.  In addition to the lower utility costs, there is the advantage of lower maintenance costs.  This is achieved through a high reliability rate, minimizing costly repairs.  The ground loop system is designed to last an average of 50 years.  The combination of reliability and high efficiency make geothermal heating the optimum choice for your heating and cooling needs.

 

The E.P.A. states geothermal systems are, " the most energy efficient, environmentally clean, and cost effective space conditioning systems available today."  By eliminating the use of gas to heat your home, carbon emissions are drastically reduced.  Geothermal systems have the smallest environmental impact of all available heating and cooling systems.  The main source of energy is continually renewed within the earth.  In addition, CLIMATE MASTER heat pumps use EarthPure R-410A refrigerant, which is non-ozone depleting.  Because geothermal systems are so economical, environmentally friendly and a source of clean renewable energy they qualify for great tax incentives.  With the passing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 newly installed geothermal systems are eligible for a tax credit of 30% of the total investment!  Combined with our great financing options, this is the perfect opportunity to invest in the best system available.
